At the end of the 17th century the town of Montelupo, linked to ceramics manufacturing since Medieval times, also became the seat of one of the first glass manufacturing companies, NARDI, which throughout the 18th century was the major glass works in Tuscany. Several other glass manufacturing companies were subsequently set up between Montelupo and Empoli and the splendour of the past is still today celebrated with the GLASS FESTIVALwhich is held in Torre a small village close to Montelupo.
