IN THE HEART OF TUSCANY
Train is one of the least expensive and most efficient means of transportation. It will take you to the heart of Florence without parking or traffic problems.
Journey times
A train journey from the station of MONTELUPO-CAPRAIA (Montelupo Fiorentino) to the centre of Florence (FIRENZE SANTA MARIA NOVELLA) takes between 22 and 30 minutes depending on the route and on the number of stops.
Trains can in fact follow two slightly different routes, and skip some stops.
IMPORTANT: The trains from FIRENZE SMN to MONTELUPO FIORENTINO are those for SIENA, PISA and LIVORNO, but not all trains stop at Montelupo Fiorentino!
So make sure you find out the correct train times. There are 2 trains every hour, from 7 am to 10 pm.

Tickets
Tickets must be purchased before the journey. The price is by kilometric bands depending on the distance.
To travel to Florence you must buy two 30-km tickets (1 for the outgoing journey, 1 for the return one), price: €3,50 each.
At the station, before the journey to and from your destination, tickets must be stamped before getting on the train by using the small yellow machine you will find at the station (it will stamp the date, time and station of departure).
Kilometre-band tickets can be purchased at cafés (Bar), tobacco & stamps shops (Tabaccheria) or at newsstands near the station.
Tickets should preferably be purchased the day before travelling. Children under the age of 4 travel free of charge, children from 4 to 11 pay 50% of the ticket price (a ticket for half the kilometre band should be purchased).
The IRIS Tourist Ticket allows you to use more than one means of transportation including train, urban bus, coaches, inside the provinces of Florence and Prato.
It can be purchased at various points of sale and costs 8 Euro (1-day ticket) or 23 Euro (3-day ticket).
