The Museum of Sacred Art at Pelago |
|
 |
The museum is housed in the S. Clemente rural church
at Pelago, in the upper part of the village where in the past towered an
old fortified Medieval castle.
|
|
The tour inside the museum
The museum features a collection of works of art coming from the religious
ornaments of the churches from the surrounding area, which had already
been put here because of security reasons.
Among all the objects, those that really stand out are the Niccolò
triptych by Pietro Gerini and the one by the Maestro di Montefoscoli, the
polychrome marble decorations of the frontal part of the altar, the wooden
crucifix, the baptismal font carved from “Serena” stone (a grey stone
found in this area ) and the organ from the 15th century.
