POMINO
Visits to Pomino, a hamlet in the Commune of
Rufina, are always uplifting, perhaps
because of the scenery, which is absolutely
atypical for Tuscany, with trees of the sort
one associates with Northern Italy, and
vineyards planted at an elevation of about
600 meters. The town's cool, temperate, and
distinctly continental climate is well
suited to Pinot Bianco, Pinot Noir, Merlot,
and Sauvignon Blanc. The particular
microclimate allows the production of wines
with fruity bouquets, great depth, and
admirable structure.
The white wines, in particular, age
extremely well, displaying pleasing body and
bouquet
a decade or more after the vintage.
The traditionally prepared vinsanto is also
excellent.
