The territory of the
Comunità Montana della Montagna Fiorentina (Mountain
Community Montagna Fiorentina) takes up the southernmost
part of the valley of the river Sieve, the closest to
Florence and part of the upper valley of the river Arno.
It comprises the following municipalities: Dicomano,
Londa, Pelago, Pontassieve, Rufina and San Godenzo.
The landscape is dominated by hills covered with olive
trees, vineyards and woods. The countryside has been
inhabited for centuries and it is full of historical
traces: churches, castles, villas and rural buildings.
The agriculture produces wine, high quality olive oil
and other specialities typical of the Tuscan tradition:
cheese, sausages, fruit, honey, pulses, etc.
The upland areas are covered with woods and secular
forests, like the renowned forest of Vallombrosa.
